Q1: Please describe what you have done in the past to serve the interest of Winnipeg dogs and dog owners - either in your own ward or in the city.
I enjoyed the large yards that Charleswood has, since I had a shepard that I felt should not be on a leash, we purchased a house with a large yard for her to run freeQ2: Does your ward have an off-leash dog park? If not, do you know why not?
There is an unofficial dog park, I dont know why we dont have one, there is plenty of green space to have oneQ3: If you are elected, will you increase the number of dog parks in your ward. If so how will you do that? If you have specific locations in mind, please identify them.
I would increase them, I would love to put a stop to Charleswood parkway extension and make the park that is currently used as a dog park official, fenced all around. If that doesnt happen, I propose the ity buy the land at the end of Dieppe rd, fence it and make it a dog park.Q4: Winnipeg lags behind many major Canadian cities in terms of the number and size of its off-leash areas, and level of service and amenities it offers dog park users. Why do you think this has happened? If elected, what would you do to change this?
I think we are more concerned with development of revenue generating properties than we are about making those developments people and animal friendlyQ5: Do you support WINDOG’s model for Winnipeg off-leash dog parks? Please provide reasons. If so, what will you do to implement it? If not, why not?
To be honest I havent researched the model, but if you have a dog park it should have all the amenities that an other park has, washroom and water facilities etc. There are older areas with retention ponds, half the ponds could be filled in and a park created. Keeping the pond for dogs to swim.Q6: What specifically should the City do to create off-leash recreational space in older, well-established neighbourhoods?
The parker lands should be left as a dog run/off leash park. The City should do what they can to provide some kind of space where they can to have dog parks.Q7: If you are elected, what specifically will you do to improve Winnipeg's existing off-leash areas? Please consider the park infrastructure, facilities, and type and level of service the city offers and give examples.
These parks should have facilities like any other park, and should be cleaned and treated like all other parks. i.e. garbage colllection etc.Q8: Winnipeg dog owners have been losing what little off-leash space they have, as it’s repurposed for other recreational users and for municipal profit through the sale and rental of off-leash space. If elected, what would you do to change this?
simple, put an end to that. it makes me laugh how one branch of government promotes play and the other sells the playgrounds, these areas are nothing more than playgrounds for dogs.
