History and Positions on all Candidates

The following are the questions that where sent to all candidates running for election in the October 2014 City of Winnipeg municipal election.

Q1: Please describe what you have done in the past to serve the interest of Winnipeg dogs and dog owners – either in your own ward or in the city.

Q2: Does your ward have an off-leash dog park? If not, do you know why not?

Q3: If you are elected, will you increase the number of dog parks in your ward. If so how will you do that? If you have specific locations in mind, please identify them.

Q4: Winnipeg lags behind many major Canadian cities in terms of the number and size of its off-leash areas, and level of service and amenities it offers dog park users. Why do you think this has happened? If elected, what would you do to change this?

Q5: Do you support WINDOG’s model for Winnipeg off-leash dog parks? Please provide reasons. If so, what will you do to implement it? If not, why not?

Q6: What specifically should the City do to create off-leash recreational space in older, well-established neighbourhoods?

Q7: If you are elected, what specifically will you do to improve Winnipeg’s existing off-leash areas? Please consider the park infrastructure, facilities, and type and level of service the city offers and give examples.

Q8: Winnipeg dog owners have been losing what little off-leash space they have, as it’s repurposed for other recreational users and for municipal profit through the sale and rental of off-leash space. If elected, what would you do to change this?

As new candidates are registered, Windog will be contacting them to respond to these questions. Each Candidate’s response will be posted by ward on this site. You can click on the Interactive Map to select by graphical representation of each ward or by clicking on the Ward or Mayoral race via the menu options under Election 2014.

It would be nice if one could tell if a candidate has answered the questions without having to click on the link for each candidate just to see that no one has yet responded. Maybe the button could be green if the candidate has responded, yellow if not or…

Your work on this is appreciated! I intend to come back & check the responses before I decide who to vote for.

      Hi Julie:
All of the responses will be published on the weekend of Sept 20, 2014. We have many but are missing quite a few as well and wanted to ensure that none of the candidates that had actually responded would be copied by those that had not at that time.

I never received a survey – please send to me – please tell me where you sent it to in the first place.
I’ve done lots in my community for dogs – please send me the survey.

        thank you

I am a voting member in your ward. I am willing to assume that just because people did not reply does not mean they do not care. However this response comes across as very rude and accusatory. I does leave a bad taste in my mouth.

          Hi Janice,
On July 2, WINDOG sent the survey to the email address that you provided to the City Clerk’s Office when you registered as a Council candidate for St. Norbert ward – votelukes@gmail.com . We also sent several follow-up reminders to all candidates. We will re-send the survey link and background information on WINDOG and dog park issues and encourage you to respond.
